Quick answer

Is Morocco safe for LGBTQ+ travelers?

Many LGBTQ+ travelers and same-sex couples visit Morocco every year and have a calm, happy trip. Same-sex relations are still illegal under Moroccan law, but the law is rarely applied to foreign tourists. The key is discretion in public: avoid public displays of affection, which is also expected of all couples in Morocco. A private tour makes this easy, with your own car, a driver-guide you can trust and a local team on WhatsApp during your whole trip.

Every traveler is welcome with us

We have welcomed travelers from all over the world since 2014. Who you travel with is your business. We plan the route, hotels and pace around you, book every room directly with places we trust, and treat every guest with the same respect and care.

What does Moroccan law say?

We prefer to be honest with you. Article 489 of the Moroccan Penal Code makes same-sex relations a crime, and same-sex marriages from other countries are not recognized in Morocco. In practice, the law is very rarely applied to foreign tourists, and Morocco remains a popular destination for LGBTQ+ travelers. Public displays of affection are uncommon for all couples in Morocco, so being discreet in public is the best way to travel without any problem.

Can same-sex couples share a room?

Yes. We book every hotel, riad and desert camp on your route directly, and they all welcome every traveler. Nobody asks who you are traveling with or for a marriage certificate. You simply arrive, check in and enjoy your room or your tent in the dunes.

Safety tips for LGBTQ+ travelers in Morocco

  • Keep affection private. Holding hands or kissing in public draws attention, for any couple.
  • Be careful with dating apps in Morocco. Do not share your hotel or personal details with people you have just met.
  • Riads, hotels and desert camps are private places. You can relax there as you would anywhere else.
  • Read your own government's travel advice for Morocco before you go, for example the US State Department or the UK Foreign Office.
  • Keep our WhatsApp number, +212 669 576 091, on your phone. Our team is there for you during the whole trip.

Why a private tour helps

On a private tour you never share a car, a table or a group with strangers. Your driver-guide travels with you from city to desert, licensed local guides show you the medinas of Fes and Marrakech, and you sleep in riads and camps we choose ourselves. You get the freedom to enjoy Morocco your way, with a local team looking after the details.

The best tours for couples

Couples often choose the 7-day luxury Morocco tour for boutique riads and a private tent in a luxury Sahara camp, or the 12-day luxury desert tour with two nights in the dunes and the Atlantic coast in Essaouira. Short on time? The 3-day Marrakech to Merzouga tour includes a sunset camel ride and a night in the Erg Chebbi dunes.

Every tour is available in three levels: Basic, Mid-Range and Luxury. To book, you send a 20% deposit by PayPal, Payoneer or bank transfer, and you pay the rest on the first day of your tour.
